Ready for a day of non-stop crappie action? You've come to the right place. I'm Taylor, your local guide on Skiatook Lake, and I'm here to put you on fish all day long. Whether you're a seasoned angler or it's your first time holding a rod, my trips are tailored to give you the best shot at filling the livewell with tasty slabs. We'll be using cutting-edge Garmin LiveScope technology and top-notch gear to find and catch crappie like never before. So grab your hat and let's hit the water!
From the moment we leave the dock, it's all about finding and catching fish. I've designed these trips to be successful in all conditions, focusing on techniques that consistently produce results. We'll start by motoring out to some of my favorite honey holes, then use LiveScope to locate active schools of crappie. Once we're on fish, I'll show you how to present your bait for maximum success. Whether you prefer vertical jigging, casting, or trolling, we'll adapt our approach to what's working best that day. And don't worry about bringing gear - I provide everything you need to land those papermouths, from rods and reels to bait and tackle. All you need to pack is some snacks and drinks to keep you fueled up for a full day of reeling 'em in.
If you haven't fished with LiveScope before, get ready to have your mind blown. This game-changing sonar technology lets us see fish in real-time, almost like we're watching an underwater TV. I'll teach you how to read the screen and interpret what you're seeing, so you can watch your jig fall right in front of a crappie's nose. It's addictive stuff, and once you've fished this way, you'll never want to go back. But LiveScope is just part of the equation - we'll also use traditional sonar, GPS mapping, and good old-fashioned know-how to put together a pattern and keep the fish coming over the gunwales all day long.
"This was my 3rd trip with Taylor. All 3 trips on different lakes and as usual Taylor did an excellent job. We were in fish from the time the boat came off of plane until we left! I highly recommend Taylor. He is a great guide and is a pleasure to fish with." - Russ
"Just had an amazing day fishing with Taylor of TJ Fishing! Taylor put us onto fish immediately after a little boat ride. We could have caught our limit but chose to keep what we could eat. Taylor was a great teacher on the live scope technique. I highly recommend using TJ Fishing" - Mark
"TJ is simply the best! Took my 2 boys, 7 & 11 yrs old, and he was great with them. Got them both catching fish in no time. Ended the day with nearly 100 fish and a bonus walleye!" - Daniel
Crappie are the bread and butter of Skiatook Lake, and for good reason. These feisty panfish are not only a blast to catch, but they're also some of the best-eating fish you'll ever taste. We target both black and white crappie, which can grow to impressive sizes in these waters. It's not uncommon to land slabs over 2 pounds, with the lake record sitting at a whopping 4 pounds, 10 ounces. Crappie tend to school up, so when we find them, it's often fast and furious action.
Spring is prime time for crappie fishing, as the fish move shallow to spawn. We'll target them around brush piles, submerged timber, and rocky points. As summer progresses, the crappie move to deeper water, and that's where our LiveScope really shines, helping us pinpoint schools suspended over deeper structure. Fall can be fantastic too, as the fish fatten up for winter and become more aggressive. No matter the season, I'll put you on the pattern that's producing the most fish and the biggest slabs.
Folks, let me tell you - there's nothing quite like the feeling of a crappie thumping your jig, then seeing that tell-tale flash of silver as you reel it in. It's addictive stuff, and once you've experienced it, you'll be hooked for life. But it's not just about the fish - it's about the whole experience. Skiatook Lake is a gorgeous body of water, surrounded by rolling hills and pristine shorelines. You might spot bald eagles soaring overhead or deer coming down to the water's edge for a drink. And there's something special about being out on the water, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, just focusing on the simple pleasure of fishing.
Plus, when you fish with me, you're not just paying for a guide - you're getting a teacher, a local expert, and hopefully, a new fishing buddy. I love sharing my knowledge and watching my clients improve their skills throughout the day. By the time we head back to the dock, you'll have new techniques in your arsenal and a better understanding of how to locate and catch crappie on your own. And let's not forget - you'll also have a cooler full of tasty fillets to take home and enjoy!
Alright, folks - if you're ready to experience some of the best crappie fishing Skiatook Lake has to offer, it's time to get that trip on the calendar. Remember, the base price is $325 for one person and $425 for two, with a max occupancy of three (though 1-2 is ideal for the best experience). I'll provide all the gear, clean and bag your catch, and even fillet your fish if you'd like. All you need to bring is your sense of adventure and maybe a camera to capture the memories (and bragging rights).
Don't wait too long to book, especially if you're looking at prime dates in spring or fall. The calendar fills up fast, and I'd hate for you to miss out on the action. So give me a call, shoot me a text, or hit that "Book Now" button. Let's get out there and put some slabs in the boat! Trust me, a day on Skiatook with TJ Fishing Co & Guide Service is an experience you won't forget. See you on the water!

Crappies are game fish and the largest members of the Centrarchidae family. They are present in nature as Black Crappie (Poxomis nigromaculatus) or and White Crappie (Poxomis annularus). Both the species are similar to each other, apart from few distinctions. White crappie will have vertical bars running the length of their body, and black crappie will have no discernible pattern and will just be speckled, hence their nickname, “specks". White crappie has 5-6 spines, and black crappie has 7-8 spines. Anglers often differentiate the two by body shapeGrenade Lake, Mississippi, and Reel foot Lake are considered among giant crappie lakes.
Both the crappies have a similar habitat, though black crappie prefers clearer water than white crappie. These fishes can be found in rivers, lakes, and backwater pools swimming in shallow waters or hiding among bushes, vegetation, or other covers.

Crappie is native to Canada and the eastern States. It is a much-enjoyed game fish in North America and inhabits the Great Lakes, Hudson Bay, and the Mississippi River Basins.
Crappie can be 7-12 inches long and weigh about 0.5-1 pounds.
Crappie is known for its tasty and white meat.
Despite its name, crappie is an excellent source of nutrition, containing high amounts of protein and essential omega-3 fatty acids. Although it's not as popular as salmon or tuna, crappie can be a delicious addition to any healthy diet. They are known for their delicate taste and ease of preparation.
When cooked properly, crappie has a delicate flavor and flaky texture, making it perfect for grilling, frying, or baking. Moreover, because they are smaller fish than other common species, such as bass or catfish, the chances of mercury contamination in their flesh are much lower.
Crappie spawning season begins in early spring and summer when the water temperature is 62 F-68 F. Male builds the nest in soft or gravelly spots, the female lays the eggs, and the male guards the nest. Eggs take 2 to 5 days to hatch.
Depending on the age, Crappie victims consist of zooplankton, crustaceans, small fish, minnows, insects, gizzard or threadfin shads, and larvae of other game fishes.
Crappie is most active at dawn or dusk. Anglers recommend using live bait and properly sized hooks, not too small, not too large.
Spin fishing for crappie is a popular angling technique used for years. The use of small lures, such as crappie spinners or jigs along the bottom with light tackle, makes it possible to catch these elusive fish with ease. Crappie spinner fishing involves using a spinning rod and reel setup to cast the lure out into the water and retrieve it in a steady fashion.
When fishing for crappie with a spinner, it's essential to choose the right size and color of the lure. Smaller lures are more effective when targeting this species due to their smaller mouths. Additionally, selecting colors that mimic the natural prey of crappie can help increase your chances of catching them. It's also important to consider where you're casting your line when using spinners for crappie fishing.
Another popular technique is a bobber with a hook with live bait such as worms or small minnows. This is a proven method to catch crappie.
